The follow is an excerpt from a message from DCJF 2017 Summer Intern Shelby Mras, published with her permission.
It's that time of the year again where I'm looking for a summer internship left and right, and throughout this whole process I keep finding myself constantly reminded of the impact my internship with the DC Jazz Fest had on me. I not only feel qualified for internships I would've been too afraid to apply to last year, I feel confident in my abilities all thanks to my internship with DCJF. I look back at working with Kerry on a press release, researching marketing strategies then pitching them to the Board of Directors, and working with OCTFME and I'm sometimes amazed with all the ways you allowed me to grow as a young professional trying to make it in the world of PR and marketing. Though it's been months, I wanted to express my gratitude for this organization again to remind you all that you impact the lives of students in ways beyond jazz. While I could rave about the experience for days, I could rave about the people (YOU Sunny, Willard, Mark, Mikki, my fellow interns, and the Board of Directors) for even longer.
So, thank you for taking the chance on me last year... I truly wouldn't be the person I am today if you all hadn't. I hope everyone is happy, healthy, and getting excited for what the 2018 festival will bring. I have my eye on a few events myself. See you soon from the crowd! - Shelby
