Jazz vocalist, composer, arranger and educator Jessica Boykin-Settles began her musical journey at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts under the tutelage of Davey Y. Yarborough. She went on to pursue an undergraduate degree in Jazz Performance at The New School University in New York City where she had the opportunity to study with great musicians and jazz legends such as Reggie Workman, Junior Mance, Cecil McBee, Arnie Lawrence, Buster Williams, Sheila Jordan, Janet Lawson and Teri Thornton. 
Jessica continued her jazz education at Howard University where she earned a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies. While there, she was a member of Howard’s premier vocal jazz ensemble Afro Blue, under the direction of Connaitre Miller. She was a full-time member of the music faculty at Howard University from 2005 to 2012 where she taught private jazz voice lessons, jazz vocal improvisation and directed the female vocal ensemble SAASY. She has recently resumed part-time duties at Howard (Fall 2014) teaching the beginning Vocal Arranging course and private voice lessons. She is also currently instructing and mentoring youth with the Washington Jazz Arts Institute under the direction of Davey Yarborough, conducting workshops and lectures on jazz singing, teaching private lessons in jazz voice, chronicling her musical exploits on her blog and performing at various venues in the Washington, DC area.
