Derek Lewis brings to the DC Jazz Festival over 25 years of exceptional Event Production and Audio Engineering experience. Derek received his degree from DeVry Institute of Electronic Technology and launched his career as Manager of Audio Visual Services at the Pratt Institute. He gained extensive experience during his tenure as Sound Engineer for entertainment pioneer Freddie Jackson, and has gone on to fulfill roles as Production Manager and Chief Sound Engineer for BeBe Winans, BabyFace, Acoustic Alchemy, and Randy Weston among many, many others. He is also credited with successful productions of the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, Trinidad Pan Jazz Festival, Washington International Horse Show, Cayman Jazz Festival, Ghana Jazz & Heritage Festival, and live broadcasts of professional boxing and college football events to mention a few. Derek is most notably a Grammy Award winner for his sound engineering work on The Experience, Live album by gospel legend Yolanda Adams and currently acts as Vice President of BET Event Productions and Senior Producer for the DC Jazz Festival. Derek attributes his success primarily to the love and pride he takes in his work."
