DC Jazz Festival Announces Initial 2019 Artists Promising a Grand 15th Anniversary Celebration
Snarky Puppy, Michael Franks, Joshua Redman, Stefon Harris & Blackout, Joey Alexander Trio, José James, Nat King Cole and Art Blakey Centennial Tributes, Randy Weston Celebration, and more
The 2019 DC JazzFest presented by Events DC, June 7-16, will include an exciting, stylistically diverse menu of top-tier jazz and jazz-informed heavyweights slated to perform in venues across the nation’s capital. Artists confirmed, to date, include a remarkably broad range of GRAMMY award-winners and nominees: perennial DC favorites Snarky Puppy, José James scintillating new Bill Withers Project, tenor sax titan Joshua Redman, singer-songwriter Michael Franks, poll-winning vibes master Stefon Harris & Blackout, the astonishing piano artistry of 14-year old Joey Alexander & more to be announced.
“This extraordinary lineup represents an incredible range of artistry, representing an array of jazz expressions, both classic & contemporary, as well as a broad representation of what we like to refer to as the International Language of Jazz,” said DC JazzFest Artistic Director Willard Jenkins.
For 15 years, DC JazzFest presented by Events DC has been both a pillar in the communities of a culturally-diverse nation’s capital, attracting thousands of visitors from across the U.S., and a key contributor to the city’s economic growth. Last year alone, more than 82,000 people attended DC JazzFest, which included over 165 performances in approximately 42 venues across DC’s 68-square-miles, including DC JazzFest at The Wharf presented by Events DC, the marquee event.

DC JazzFest at The Wharf presented by Events DC, June 14-16, offers a distinct urban experience with vibrant restaurants, shops, entertainment, residences, hotels, the historic Fish Market, and public parks and piers. The waterfront neighborhood reestablishes Washington, DC as a waterfront city, and offers the ideal setting for a fully immersive DC JazzFest festival experience.
