  • All applicant bands must be comprised of 2-9 members.
  • Each band member must be at least eighteen years old, but not older than 40 years old.
  • Bands can combine any instrumentation including conventional jazz strings and winds formats and/or percussion, voice, and technology.
  • Membership of the band may not change once the application is submitted, and each member is required to compete in Washington, DC on June 15, 2017 should the band be chosen as a Semi-Finalist.
  • Applicant bands may be affiliated or housed within music school departments, or be categorized as “stand-alone/self-contained” and/or professionally emerging. In all cases, DCJazzPrix aims to select a winning band applicant that most competitively addresses the stated review criteria.

Work Sample Audio/Video Requirements

  • Accepted platforms are (ONLY): YouTube, SoundCloud, BandCamp. Usage of incorrect formats will automatically disqualify an application.
  • Include only one work sample per link; and list with each the composition’s title, composer’s name, arranger’s name, band members' names, track length, and date of recording.
  • In all, submit two to four selections/files and no more than fifteen minutes of total music.
  • Eligible samples must represent performances between September 1, 2015 and March 4, 2017 and must reflect the applicant band in its current personnel incarnation.

  • Extensive editing can detract from juror viewing, and is strongly discouraged.
