From the Founder of the DC Jazz Festival

Release Date
Friday, June 2, 2017

Dear Jazz Lovers Everywhere,

I founded the DC Jazz Festival as I was surprised that there was no major jazz festival in the nation's capital, in the country where jazz was created. With the support of my family and friends, and donors who are jazz fans including the Cafritz Foundation, The Washington Post, WJLA, the law firm Patton Boggs, the Greater Washington Board of Trade, Sage Communications and the Government of the District of Columbia, we created what is now a world class festival.

I encourage you to come enjoy the excellent music presented by wonderfully gifted, DC-based, nationally and internationally recognized talent.

The following are the "Founding Family Favorite Picks" for this year:

My PickJazz Legends Double Feature: Roy Haynes Fountain of Youth Band/Ron Carter-Russell Malone Duo , Saturday, June 10th, 7:00 PM, at the Howard Theatre

My wife's Stephanie's Pick:  Gregory Porter, Sunday, June 18th at DC JazzFest at Yards Park.  Gates: 2:00 PM

Our son Moses' Pick:  Jazz 'n Families Fun Days especially Jazz Drummer Lennie Robinson (and his teacher) , Saturday, June 3rd (10am-5pm) and Sunday June 4th (Noon-7:00pm) at The Phillips Collection

Be Cool,

Charles Fishman
